several issue seem to be described there which make the work harder now.

connecting to an user directory on a ubuntu samba server using security
share works correctly once smbpasswd has been used to define the samba
password for the corresponding user, not confirming the issue. could you
describe exactly how you configure your server and what steps you use in
GNOME? Did you try to use "gvfs-mount smb://smbname/share"? Do you have
anything in the server logs? Does smbclient works correctly?
