Sorry, I forgot to mention that you need to execute sudo modprobe hdaps_ec before running rotate_daemon. After loading the module a 'dmesg' should give a line like: input: ThinkPad HDAPS accelerometer data as /devices/platform/hdaps/input/input37 which confirms that the accelerometer values are accessible using the kernel input driver framework.
