ok i got a temporary solution from ubuntuforums, where two other people reported the same problem: it seems to be a syncing issue. the emails can be re-synced by dragging them to a dummy folder - where the already appear as synced - and then simple drag them back to inbox. however - this should not become everyday's s.o.p. .... ;-)
