Thank you for the bug report. I believe this is something that needs minor tuning to allow you to use a DVD-RAM as a backup target.
If DVD-RAM is recognized as a regular 'disk drive' could you please try and use the edgy version of huabckup: From the main dialog window, choose 'Other' as the backup target, and from the file choose dialog see if you can choose the directory by which this devices is mounted, in this instance it would probably be '/media/cdrom0'.
