Public bug reported: I have a Toshiba U300 laptop. I loaded Gutsy Gibbon without a hitch but sound won't play. The laptop has a Realtek HD Audio driver. I checked the ALSA site and found Realtek is not supported. I went to the Realtek site and downloaded the driver realtek-linux-audiopack-5.01 and installed it as per the installation notes given with the package. It found One Intel HDA card and one legacy (non-PNP) chip! I chose the Intel card but the test sound did not play. The following is the installation log:
