Public bug reported: Hi,
I have a sound problem with my ACER ASPIRE 8920G. I did everything : installation linux-backport-modules, changes in alsa files....reboot, compilation of new alsa driver but despite that....same problem : no sound at all : on headphones nor on speakers.....nothing at all ! ;-( I am on Hardy 8.04 beta with x86_64. In addition : I also tried the way to download the last driver, e.g. alsa-driver-1.0.16rc2.tar.bz2 here : ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.16rc2.tar.bz2 (last release i found) Then i extracted it, compiled it and installed it.... No improvements (i checked again everything with alsamixer, sound properties, and so on...). No errors also during the reboot. The sound still is definitively silent..... ;-((( Here are some data who can be useful for you to solve this bug (concerning essentially Acer laptop it sounds, according to what i saw before...) : _______________________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a Linux patrick-laptop2 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base # autoloader aliases install sound-slot-0 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-0 install sound-slot-1 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-1 install sound-slot-2 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-2 install sound-slot-3 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-3 install sound-slot-4 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-4 install sound-slot-5 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-5 install sound-slot-6 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-6 install sound-slot-7 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-7 # Cause optional modules to be loaded above generic modules install snd /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-ioctl32 ; : ; } install snd-pcm /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-pcm && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-pcm-oss ; : ; } install snd-mixer /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-mixer && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-mixer-oss ; : ; } install snd-seq /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-seq && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-seq-midi ; /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-seq-oss ; : ; } install snd-rawmidi /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-rawmidi && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-seq-midi ; : ; } # Cause optional modules to be loaded above sound card driver modules install snd-emu10k1 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-emu10k1 $CMDLINE_OPTS && { /sbin/modprobe -Qb snd-emu10k1-synth ; } install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-via82xx $CMDLINE_OPTS && { /sbin/modprobe -Qb snd-seq ; } # Load saa7134-alsa instead of saa7134 (which gets dragged in by it anyway) install saa7134 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install saa7134 $CMDLINE_OPTS && { /sbin/modprobe -Qb saa7134-alsa ; : ; } # Load snd-seq for devices that don't have hardware midi; # Ubuntu #26283, #43682, #56005; works around Ubuntu #34831 for # non-Creative Labs PCI hardware install snd /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd && { /sbin/modprobe -Qb snd-seq ; } # Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index 0 options bt87x index=-2 options cx88_alsa index=-2 options saa7134-alsa index=-2 options snd-atiixp-modem index=-2 options snd-intel8x0m index=-2 options snd-via82xx-modem index=-2 options snd-usb-audio index=-2 options snd-usb-usx2y index=-2 options snd-usb-caiaq index=-2 # Ubuntu #62691, enable MPU for snd-cmipci options snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388 options snd-hda-intel model=acer [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec Codec: Realtek ALC889 Codec: Generic 11c1 ID 1040 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /dev/snd controlC0 hwC0D0 hwC0D1 pcmC0D0c pcmC0D0p pcmC0D4c seq timer [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /dev/audio /dev/audio [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /dev/dsp* /dev/dsp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec\#1 Codec: Generic 11c1 ID 1040 Address: 1 Vendor Id: 0x11c11040 Subsystem Id: 0x10250145 Revision Id: 0x100200 Modem Function Group: 0x1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xfc300000 irq 22 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsmod | grep snd snd_hda_intel 440408 3 snd_pcm_oss 47648 0 snd_mixer_oss 20224 2 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 92168 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss snd_page_alloc 13200 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm snd_hwdep 12552 1 snd_hda_intel snd_seq_dummy 5764 0 snd_seq_oss 38912 0 snd_seq_midi 10688 0 snd_rawmidi 29856 1 snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 10112 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi snd_seq 63232 6 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event snd_timer 27912 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 10644 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq snd 70856 15 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_hwdep,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device soundcore 10400 2 snd [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep backports linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-16-generic install linux-backports-modules-hardy install linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic install _______________________________________________________ Thanks a lot for cooperation Patrick. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and Realtek ALC889 and Intel HDA 82801H https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
