** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager-gnome

  Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
- Release: 8.04
+ Release: 8.04 beta (amd64)
  Package: network-manager-gnome
  Version: 0.6.6-0ubuntu2
  Application: nm-applet

After manually configuring a 'Wired connection' in network settings with
static addresses it did not setup the interface correctly and IP was
  non-functional.

It did not appear to update /etc/network/interfaces and possibly other
config files correctly. eth0 was not added to the 'auto lo' line in
/etc/network/interfaces, so the ethernet interface was not functional.
Manually editing this file works around the problem.

There may be additional config connections not made with nm-applet.
'connection information' is greyed out when right-clicking on the icon.
Even though the 'Wired Connection' is checked/selected in network
  settings.
