You should be able to launch the screensaver manually on the command
line, it will just not be fullscreen (which I don't believe will effect
this).  All of the binaries for the screensavers are located in:

   /usr/lib/xscreensaver

To find out if there are specific commandline options that are being
used (probably not, but if it doesn't crash) you can look at the desktop
files that configure the screensavers in:

   /usr/share/applications/screensavers/
