Sorry for the late reply. After upgrade (2008-04-15) of the whole system, the problem does still exist Safe-mode option does not show any effect (4min load time until the safe-mode dialog appears). No gnome support packages had been installed. Purgin firefox and xulrunner and reinstalling it does not help neither.
