Same here exactly, only on ATI. ATI x1300, dual head setup (never worked properly) Intel DualCore 1.8 Ubuntu 8.04, upgraded online from 7.10, last update on April 13th 2008.
In addition, both screens show only part of desktop. Looks like desktop is set to 1280x1024, but resolution is set to 1024x768. Or maybe even 1600x1200 vs 1280x1024.
