Public bug reported: Just bought a new Dell XPS M1530, (some relevant specs below) tried starting up a Live CD of Hardy beta, (AMD64 - tested for defects and passed on another computer). When trying to startup the Live CD and/or test CD for defects, goes black when splash screen should come up, (presuming that's an issue with the video card, but have had to work around that before - not good for further adoption of Ubuntu, but fine for me). Edited the boot line to nosplash, and pretty much right after the splash screen would start, got the below:
usb 1-1: unable to read config index 0 descriptor/all usb 1-1: can't read configurations, error -71 and that's pretty much it. The CD still sounds like it's trying to do something, but nothing happens for at least 5 mins, (after which, I forced shutdown). One time, (and only one time) it threw a different, longer error, (4-5 lines, can't seem to replicate - keep just getting the above now). Pressed the power button, which seemed to get it to keep trying to load, (has not exhibited such behavior since). Eventually it loaded up the GDM, but the touchpad was nigh unto psychotic - whipping back, forth, up and down, opening windows, moving taskbars, etc. Will file a second bug for the touchpad behavior, just including here for both the idea of the 2nd error, as well as pushing the power button acting as an Ignore/Continue. ----- Dell XPS M1530 Processor: Intel Dual Core T5450 Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS LCD Panel Max Resolution: 1280x800 Touchpad: Alps Touchpad Wireless: Intel 4965 BIOS: A08 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Live CD doesn't work at all on Dell XPS M1530 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216791 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
