I found the problem. I was using my usb sound card ever since I started using ubuntu because the pcm was not working on my pci sound card (I was used to using the pcm output on windows). I finally tried plugging my mini plug output from my pci card to my amp. After that I heard sound in flash. Apparently flash was defaulting to my pci sound card but ubuntu was still playing sound for other applications through my usb sound card. So now I know that both my pci sound card and flash were working all along. I just have to figure out how to get pcm working and I'm good. Thanks for the help.
