Later on, I tried another re-install on my E2160 rig, which took two hours, consisted of 509 packages and included new kernel 2.6.24-16-generic, removed kernel 2.6.24-15-generic and left kernel 2.6.24-12-generic. Normal re-start into kernel 2.6.24-16-generic after a very slow re-boot, produced Linux, non-NTFS drive icons and very slow response before locking up and needing a hard reset, so selected kernel 2.6.24-12-generic which seems to be working well. It's been another long day, not good for my blood pressure. After a nights rest, I'll finish checking functionality and package interactions.
