This was a bug in linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24, which has already been
fixed; please reboot to a previous kernel and install the following
update:
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 (2.6.24-16.22) hardy; urgency=low

* Revert "cx88 NULL pointer dereference"
It appears to cause lockups during sound device registration and probably
affects all platforms with audio devices.
