Of course it's not a problem to the majority of people that use NetworkManager and don't use a VPN. However, for those that do use DNS services over a VPN, it is. As it stands, network-manager claims to provide that functionality and doesn't, so the bug is still a major showstopper for a certain subsection of users.
dan_linder still has a valid issue, as he may rely only on IP addresses to reach work servers. The VPN will still work for him, but since /etc/resolv.conf is scrubbed every time then it removes his ability to use anything _but_ IP addresses to access any servers on any network.
