Caroline I have a feeling that your device has a firmware that doesn't cause hal to do the hundreds of disconnect/connects when it's attached (see the last 8 or so comments on https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=253096). While I completely agree with you that "if it ain't broke then don't fix it", I think it would be still useful if you tried the modified hal-info to check that your modem would still work with the additional rules - there are most likely plenty of users out there with the older firmware and it would be useful to know if the hal rules would cause problems for devices with the less-broken firmware. If you could also post the firmware version you're using, that would probably be useful (you can get it by issuing an ATI to the device).
