Karl, this is probably the case because bash-completion is either not
installed or not enabled for you.

Ar you using hardy or an older version?

Can you post the output ot the following commands:

complete -p sudo
dpkg -s bash | grep 'Status\|Version'
dpkg -s bash-completion | grep 'Status\|Version'
