Public bug reported: Dell Optiplex 740 AMD64 Athlon X2
Next four lines are data from SaX2, the graphics app. off SuSe, in a good installation on this computer: Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE Monitor: DEL DELL 1708FP Resolution: 1280x1024(SXGA) Colors 65535 [16bit] When I boot a Live Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Beta 64 bits, resolution cannot be more than 800x600, screen doesn't cover all monitor, and is not centered. Looks bad, also usable, somehow. [ LOOK "original" xorg.conf in the doc attached (xorgs.txt)] Then I compared SuSE's good intalled xorg.conf, and pasted some lines. It didn't work, but I got in a window that let me choose the monitor (I chose Dell 1708FP (digital) and card (Nvidia Geforce 6 series). Then I opened another tty and made startx. It worked, and with the res. of 1280x1024 available, which I chose. I also chose 60Hz. Looked perfect. [ LOOK "new_working" xorg.conf in the doc attached (xorgs.txt)] You can see also the xorg.conf that has the original SuSE [ LOOK "SuSE's" xorg.conf in the doc attached]. I'm not sure which version of SuSE is, but could posibly be the last. This are about 12 brand new (and identic) computers that we received in our school, and they come with dual boot SuSE+W$. I don't like SuSE, so I am changing to Ubuntu. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Bad detection of card - Dell Optiplex 740 AMD64 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
