I haven't done the killall and reindex, so perhaps the problem is on my
computer only.

I didn't choose to get this package, it was included as an update. It
drew my attention because it wasn't working properly.

Now I've done some reading about it. It may be useful, but I'm concerned
about privacy and automatic generation of meta-data in individual files.

I think the tracker project should be more engaging to the user. It
should ask me if now is a good time for indexing, or if it should wait
for three hours when I've gone to bed.

When it's indexing, it should warn me if it's going to generate meta-
data which didn't exist before it began. Suppose I share some files on
which have been tagged in some way which compromises my privacy?

You know what? I'd prefer if every log file in my operating system were
tracked by a daemon which warns me whenever new data is being generated.
I'd like to know where the logs and caches are and what they contain. I
shouldn't have to seek them out.

I hope that Ubuntu is putting the user first at all times for privacy
and control.
