I'm also using a Dell Latitude D610. Neither standby nor hibernate work at all. The screen goes black with both, but the computer doesn't shut down. I can't wake the computer up from whatever state it is in either, and I have to hold the power button down for a few seconds to shut the computer off and just reboot.
