I wasnt sure if this was a LiveCD issue and that once properly installed Xubuntu would show the partitions on my desktop just fine (as it does with my installation of Xubuntu 7.10) but when I asked on the IRC channel people seemed to be off the opinion that it should have worked on the LiveCD. Was I miss informed? It's been that long since I used the 7.10 liveCD I cant remember if this showed the icons on my desktop or not.
