Leann, I have the same device and to can confirm that to get this to work you have to copy http://ventoso.org/luca/af9005/af9005.fw into /lib/firmware/<kernel version>/ every time the kernel is updated. this is in hardy beta (latest), have seen this problem since gutsy.
please add the firmware to the firmware distribution if possible as many cheap usb sticks use this chipset.
