Apparently puppet 0.24.2 introduced a change that broke backward compatibility with older puppet servers. Details can be found in this report: http://puppet.reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/ticket/1124 It may be that users simply need to be notified that the new version requires that their puppet server be upgraded.
