The last tests were on edgy, but I had dapper on the laptop 2 months ago and it was the same. totem-gstreamer with all the -ffmpeg, -bad, -ugly, -multiverse etc plugins installed, maybe that helps. Just for info, should surround sound work in dapper/edgy? I only had partial success so far, and that only with "mplayer -channel etc".
