Sorry, I wasn't going to run a half-functioning system so I reinstalled the whole system with the Kubuntu 8.04 Beta 5 KDE4 disk, meaning those log files have been wiped. Had the "Would you like to report a bug?" screen suggested that I include those files, I would have done so! This libc6 error was the first of many many failures in this upgrade, to the point that I just stopped the whole upgrade processes, so it wasn't limited to libc6.
