Just as a follow up, the reason I have a custom edid is because my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite, one of the ones with the known "black bar" and messed up screen resolution problems (which the custom edid fixes). Without my custom edid, I still have the desktop effects problem ALONG with the messed up resolution. Just figured I'd let you know about that.
