I think what's happening for me is that the server is timing out, and dropping the connection. But Nautilus isn't realising that the connection is dead, and when I try to do something, like open a folder, it's taking a long time before giving this error. I haven't confirmed that I'm right about this guess: I stopped trying to use Nautilus to do this and switched to gftp which could reliably maintain the connection.
In my original title I wrote '(and other protocols)'. I was wrong about that: it was a separate problem and turned out to be configuration problem on a server running smb. Nautilus couldn't make a connection. Neither, it turned out, could anything else. But Nautilus was able to reliable connect through smb to another well-configured server. -- nautilus fails on sftp (and other remote access protocols) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208595 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
