First I am Newbie. I am having the same problem with the greeter. What I did was deleted the Ubuntu Studio Theme folder in the /usr/share/gdm/themes/. This caused a different error.
"There was an error loading the theme UbuntuStudio Can't open file /usr/share/gdm/themes/UbuntuStudio/UbuntuStudio.xml. Which was an obvious error. After hitting OK it loads the Circle login screen. I am able login and work normally.
