As far as I can see the wireshark package does provide two .desktop files: /usr/share/applications/wireshark-root.desktop /usr/share/applications/wireshark.desktop
They're both present, visible and working in my default installation. Can you verify that these files exist in your system (and are provided by the wireshark package).
