I have been updating 8.04 periodically (sometimes daily, sometimes more like weekly, and this was after several days of not updating).
There were only two obvious things I noticed: the large number of updates, and the fact that I got an error message and a hang when shutting down that referred to the SCIM initialization. I do not know if this was the initial install of SCIM or if previous installs and updates just did not generate any errors so I had not noticed it. I was able to get past the problem by reinstalling 8.04 from the CD, and then I used the Synaptic Package Manager to update all packages, unchecked all the updates that referred to SCIM, and rebooted (as requested). I then updated the SCIM packages and all worked well. -- [fglrx] atieventsd crashed with SIGSEGV in XextAddDisplay https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201650 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
