To make it clear about 'Option "UseFBDev" "true"': it wasn't in the first autoconfiged xorg.conf (first backup) but it was in the xorg.conf (second backup) that resulted from my first booting in recovery mode and selecting xfix. Also, the system locks when I leave the computer idle for a very long time (screen saver greys out the screen, this can resume OK, but after 1 idle hour or more of grey screen, the system stops responding to anything).
