Thanks for confirming our issues are separate. We'll see with time if
others report trouble like mine.

I have installed hardy in a test partition and I don't have problems
with ubiquity if I run with everything already mounted, but it does
produce problems if nothing but the root directory is mounted. So it
depends.

I believe my problem is probably triggered by the changes in the gnome
software. I'm recommending one patch that would be a reaction to the
gnome changes, and one patch that would make ubiquity more robust in the
face of further gnome software interference or interference from other
software.

I'm running with the daily live cd from last Sunday, so I should already
have the patch you found. I think the problem is software like gnome-
volume-manager, other gnome software, and Nautilus, in particular,
interfering with ubiquity.

If nobody but me experiences a problem it won't matter. I can circumvent
the problem or apply the patches I developed so I'm ok no matter what. I
just wanted to pin down the problem in case others run into it as hardy
is nearing release. I have a large number of partitions so I suspect
that I may be more vulnerable to the timing issues than others.

Thanks both for writing and for your research.
