In a terminal window type gedit, the following error is displayed and gedit 
fails to start.

Gedit runs correctly if run from the ubuntu main menu.

gedit: /apps/mono-1.9/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available 
(required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)
gedit: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64
