What might be interesting is the wireless-compat package on linuxwireless.org. They provide the latest mac80211 versions including all mac80211 drivers for "older" kernels.
Unfortunately the patch that fixed above problems was not a single patch, in fact it were about 80 patches that fixed most issues.
