Thank you for the input, but that couldn't have been the issue. This problem happened before I did any compiling and installing under /usr/local, on two machines even. This was an issue I tracked and debugged for a week solid, because, as a photographer, I can't live without digikam. I reinstalled, removed /usr/local, recompiled, added libraries, did a fresh install of Hardy, everything. For some reason, this past update solved it. I have no idea why if there was just disabling debug. Weird.
