This also happens to me, using a Lenovo 3000 N200 (TY2BBGE), Intel GMA
X3100 / GM965. I'm on the current Hardy beta, but the bug has also
occured on Gutsy before I upgraded.

Running Compiz has not triggered this bug here (I use Compiz
exclusively). Playing 3D games based on OpenGL reliably causes the
symptoms described above after playing for some time, an hour at most.
Note that I have not seen any funny colors, but the rest of the symptoms
match my problem.

Sometimes the screen flashing does not happen, but instead all graphical
output seems to freeze. The system does not lock up, but it "does not
respond to Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, but does reboot on
Alt+SysRq+b" (as described above). This may be a seperate issue, I'm not
sure.
