After upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04beta I had the same problem. Creating a /dev/dvd symlink fixed the problem. HOWEVER, it seems like neither Kaffeine nor Ubuntu are doing due diligence here:
First, Kaffeine's method of finding DVD drives obviously isn't smart at all. Second, this latest version of the player is incorrectly starting (each time it is run) an install process for libdvdcss2 after it cannot find the drive, making the user think that the player or the library CSS support is fundamentally broken when all the player needs is the correct drive path. Third, its seems like Ubuntu should stick to some standard nomenclature for CD and DVD device paths (which keeps changing and changing yet again for each new Ubuntu release). -- [totem-xine] DVD will not play https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103173 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
