I had this problem on my Ubuntu Gutsy and I can confirm that it still persists after an upgrade to Ubuntu Hardy Beta. On Debian Etch it everything works as it should. I've attached log files as requested in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices
