I think you are right, it is the same bug. It seems to happen if a
window pops up while the display with X on it is not selected. The
window popping up in this case is the password box on resume from
suspend. On my machine, I can get the white screen by locking the
screen and then quickly (before the password box pops up) switching to
another vt (ctrl+F1), and then switching back (ctrl+F7).
