For what it's worth, the 'kdesu "adept_manager --dist-upgrade-devel"' command worked fine. Went thru the rest of the packages, had me restart, went thru the standard fsck (after 125 days uptime) which seemed to stall at 10%, then another restart while I wasn't looking, all seems well.
