I have a Sony laptop with the Intel 3945ABG network interface. I
searched through google for a while and found a reference to network
manager applet being the culprit. I installed wicd as recommended which
removed nm-applet. I then had no connection problem to my WPA network at
home with hidden SSID and MAC filtering using don't auto-connect. Now I
load the wicd tray icon and select connect and it connects. I will also
state that the connection seems to work faster the nm-applet in 7.10. I
tried previously upgrading from a clean 7.10 to BETA and installing from
the alternate BETA 8.04 disc.

Thought this might be of interest since installing wicd and no other
ubuntu related linux module packages allowed the interface to work for
me. At this point the LEDs do not operate like they used to (don't light
up) and the restricted driver manager does not list the Intel interface
like it did in 7.10. When switching to the new driver method supported
by 2.6 kernels I thought I read that the proprietary driver is no longer
needed, so I wasn't expecting it to be listed anymore but it would be
nice to have the LEDs working.

If someone needs more information about my configuration, let me know
which pieces.
