Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04
2.6.24-12-generic

An external usb hard-drive will sometimes unmount itself. The icon will
disappear from the desktop. It will still be visible in the file browser
but it is not mounted anymore. I have had various situations when this
occurred on three different machines (different hardware specs.). It is
hard to reproduce but it happens quite often. The last time it happened
virtualbox was trying to access a non existing iso; dmesg reported
"[10733.854615] sr0: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the
drive.". Most of the times it seems like a random event with no extra
tail to dmesg. It seems to happen less often when you are not touching
the machine (using X etc.)

I have had this bug on gutsy (2.6.22-14-generic and older) as well on
different machines but I thought I had read somewhere that it was a
kernel issue and that it was was fixed in a newer kernel.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
