Thanks Mario - setting the /sys parameter works, however I can't get the modprobe option to work. I already tried setting "option hid pb_fnmode=2" in both /etc/modprobe.conf as well as /etc/modprobe.d/options - neither had any effect on a reboot. Did something change in u8.04 re. module parameters?...modprobe.conf didn't even exists anymore by default.
