This has been fixed in ntfs-3g STABLE Version 1.2216 (February 16, 2008)

1:1.2216-1ubuntu1. It would be great if these fixes would be available
to those of us still using gutsy until the final hardy release.
By the way, the current STABLE of ntfs-3g is STABLE Version 1.2310
(March 10, 2008). Minor fixes mostly regarding mounting options.
