Would it not be a simple fix to the more "permanent" side effects of
this issue to limit the title of a document to something sensible like
512 characters?

As for the actual run itself, maybe the javascript interpreter could be
made to have a built in timeout of say 10 seconds (based on sigalarm
maybe?), after which it would then introduce a 300 ms sleep to each
"for" closure, thus throttling down the cpu usage and yeilding for UI
messages - so the stop button could be hit or the page closed..
