Strangely, when I removed the USB to PS/2 adapter and connected the keyboard to USB the problem was solved. So the problem lies either with the PS/2 port or converter or with the communication with the PS/2 port... The former possibility sound more likely even if still a bit strange. It would mean that there's no bug, just a hardware malfunction on my system.
