I upgraded from gutsy last night, and I get something similar. I'm not quite sure if it's the same bug.
I think I had only the -generic kernel installed in gutsy, but the updater seems to have installed both a new -generic kernel and a -386 one. I guess I was lucky, because the -386 kernel works but the -generic build fails, stopping at "Waiting for root filesystem". The running kernel is tainted by the proprietary nvidia driver, but I don't suppose that should matter so early in the boot process. It shouldn't get loaded until X is started anyway (it's not in /etc/modules). I have the linux metapackages installed for both builds (linux-386 and linux-generic). I'll be trying with an -rt kernel shortly. For the record, I don't have any SATA disks or even a SATA controller. I'm attaching the output from lspci. I can also try and see if I could get to busybox with the -generic kernel to get the kernel version signature and uname output, although I believe they're pretty much the same as with this 386 kernel, just with -generic instead of -386. I don't have a camera at hand right now but if you need a picture of the messages, I can try to get one. ** Attachment added: "lspci.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12759904/lspci.log -- Can't boot after the installation of Hardy alpha 6 from Live CD only https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
