Good work Bryce, thanks for biting in this bug so much. (It really bugged me)
I just installed the xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9.2~bwh1_i386.deb on gutsy and now I am able to switch consoles again. So this last version does NOT have the bug. The question is, what have we disabled?
