No, this is standard Ubuntu. If I go into my dell BIOS and set the SATA mode from IDE to RAID, then everything boots ok. I think there seem to be some problems with the new libata library. Is there any way to use the legacy IDE support using a boot option? I think this wd be useful for many users.
