I can't say the same. I get high load counts in Ubuntu Gutsy on my Toshiba with a Seagate Momentus. On a fresh install, either plugged in or unplugged (I never saw any change in the count) I'm getting about one every 10 seconds to 1 minute. Under Windows XP, I'm seeing like 2 to 4 per hour; none if there's no activity.
It's not all Ubuntu, of course. All the other distros are showing the same as I've hopped around a bit. I tried applying the various fixes that I've found, but I'm not seeing any difference in the increased load counts. Which is frustrating, because windows is obviously doing SOMETHING to control it. Question is, what, and how, to impliment this. I don't know if pm-utils will be a different change or not. I haven't tried it, and am not sure how. If somebody wants me to try it, I will, just tell me what to do. -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
